Yoga has been something that always intrigued me. There is so much more to it than just the movements, there is the passion and the lifestyle that encompasses it. I wanted to learn everything I could about it but I knew I had to do it at my own time. I had, and still sometimes very much struggle with, body issues which caused me to feel that I was not meant to be a ‘yogi’ because I wasn’t skinny or flexible. But the more I learned about the art of yoga the more I realized how one looks or moves has nothing to do with the practice.
It wasn’t until 2013 that I finally took that step and went to my first ‘real’ class in a traditional yoga studio. I was given a 10-class pass, a new yoga mat, blocks, straps and a towel for one of my birthdays from my family and I never looked back. I used up that pass then started to tour around the city to the other studios to see all the different styles they had to offer. The one thing that always struck me was the ability of the yoga teachers to articulate so gracefully what it was they wanted their students to do. They would practice along-side the students as well as offer guidance and cues to ensure the students were always safe. I knew that I wanted to become one of them so in Sept 2018 I decided to take my Yoga Teacher Training with #higherloveyogaacademy and became an RYT 200 (registered yoga teacher with 200 hours of official training).
When I finished my training, I had this sudden drive and ambition to make this amazing opportunity into a career. I began offering classes to students in the community setting at affordable rates thus ensuring everyone who wanted to practice could. I took additional training so that I could offer specialized classes and I envisioned a whole new world that involved my love of yoga.
I truly believe that yoga is for everyBODY and that it should be affordable for anyone who wants to practice, and I believe that yoga can be absolutely anything you want it to be, you just have to take a chance!
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me! I hope that I get to know you as well!
